Vennture Mouthpieces is a new-ish company who’s absolutely changing the game when it comes to brass mouthpieces. With Vennture, you get to have a say in the piece of metal that you press into your face to make music.

Their software, VennCAD lets you make sense of what your mouthpiece actually is. No more using comparison charts or wishy-washy terminology to try to convey what you’re looking for. You can compare or modify mouthpieces that already exist in the VennCAD library or you can send your mouthpiece in to have it scanned and go from there.

These are the mouthpieces in my own line from Vennture.

(Editors note: each of these mouthpieces have been superseded. I am leaving this page as it stands as a snapshot into what I was playing at the time.)

The Dubba C

Where it all started.

This mouthpiece was the beginning of my advenntures. I certainly enjoyed my old ‘workhorse’ mouthpiece, but then I got bit by the curiosity bug…

We prototyped a set of 3 tops and 3 backbores based off what I was playing and tweaked for the changes I wanted made. This was the best of the 9 combinations. This is my go-to for Bb trumpet in almost all styles.

The Sidewinder

How do I hold this thing?

The Sidewinder was a combination from our first set of prototypes that worked pretty well for rotary trumpet. We took that and tweaked it a little bit further. I’ve accidentally grabbed the wrong mouthpiece before so we chose a different blank and added some weight to further differentiate.

The Biggboi

Bigger is better.

The Biggboi was designed specifically to take advantage of the 4th valve and pedal registers of my Van Laar Flugelhorn. Based on a tenor horn rim, this mouthpiece really sings below the staff, but it also works remarkably well in and above the staff!

Lede

LC3-C

Higher!
Faster!
Louder!

The Vennture lede mouthpieces are a whole line designed from the ground up for lead and commercial playing.

I chose this combination out of the fit kit. It’s a package that has 11 tops and 4 backbores that you can choose from. Once you pick your combination, you send it back and order a production mouthpiece.

The smallboi

Making piccolo trumpet easier since 2021.

A byproduct of the Lede kit paired with a cornet backbore. All the zip and brilliance you can ask for in a beautiful blank.

MGM

The Goldilocks mouthpiece. Not commercial, not orchestral, just right.

Based on a deeper drop V cup than the LV3 and paired with the Lede C backbore. With a 28 throat the color comes in to the sound quickly, so you don’t have to push it to get the zip. It’s got that “Hollywood Shimmer”

The Tone-y Soprano

“Watch out, Cookie’s got a gun”

Based on the same deeper drop V as the MGM and paired with a custom cornet backbore the Tone-y Soprano rounds out the sound for when you need to blend but gives the compression needed to nail that top C every time.

The Stealth Bomber

You won’t notice until it’s too late…

A few small backbore and gap tweaks to the Dubba C created this monstrosity for my C trumpet.

This mouthpiece has an immense color range and dynamic palette with incredibly stable intonation. All of this hides under a Bach blank to fly under the radar.

Bandmaster

A modern approach to a classic tradition.

The goal was to find a solution to get a proper British cornet sound while retaining playability. The extremely deep cup is balanced by a conservative throat and backbore.

Once my personal model was finished, I created a line of 12 models in various sizes in a matter of days using 3D printing to rapidly prototype.

Cookie Fantastique

l’Histoire du Cookie

Let’s face it, C cornet doesn’t get played often; but when you do play it the sound needs to be just right. You need brilliant articulations, a sweet sound, and dexterity. When designing this piece I had musical works such as Symphonie Fantastique and l’Histoire du Soldat in mind.

The Bigg(er)boi

A bass trumpet piece for trumpet players rather than trombone players.

I started with the same rim from the Biggboi. I found even the smallest trombone mouthpieces to still be too wide for my liking. With this I have all the facility that I’d like out of a doubling instrument.

I’m excited to be developing an entire line of mouthpieces with Vennture.

These mouthpieces will cover all of my playing demands and will be available for purchase.
